Women's Business Center Alliance to network your business

The purpose of the Women's Business Center Alliance is to provide a grass roots network of supporters for the work of the Women’s Business Center in Southern Alabama. The Women's Business Center Alliance is a network of professional women and men willing to share their resources and talents.

The Women’s Business Center of Southern Alabama (WBC-SAL) supports entrepreneurial women as they begin and grow their businesses in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.  With the approval of a sustainability grant from the Small Business Administration, WBC-SAL is actively expanding services in greater Mobile, Southern Baldwin County and the surrounding rural area.

WBC-SAL is working to deliver direct counseling and business planning services throughout Mobile and Baldwin counties; from partnering with The Lighthouse and Lutheran Disaster Relief in Bayou La Batre in planning financial literacy classes, to building relationships with business women in Saraland, the Eastern Shore and the lower Baldwin County communities.  Watching entrepreneurs grow both personally and professionally is an exciting process!

We're expanding our services through educational, networking and mentoring groups called Success Circles.  These monthly roundtable discussions serve business women owners and managers and are facilitated by area business women.  If you're interested in starting a monthly roundtable discussion, please contact me at sblosser@womenbiz.biz.

With your support, our educational programs and special events will continue evolving to meet the ever changing needs of our growing small business communities.

Women's Business Center of Southern Alabama Project

The Women's Business Center of Southern Alabama (WBC-SAL)

The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill on April 20th started a dramatic chain of events for businesses on the Gulf Coast.  In direct response to businesses in need, the Gulf Coast Business Support Center (BSC) was opened at Faulkner State Community College, Gulf Shores Campus.  The BSC is a single place where businesses may access a broad selection of resources for information, education and assistance.

The Women's Business Center of Southern Alabama is staffing one counselor position full time at the BSC.  I counsel on Tuesday and Thursday and Norman Schuchman, WBC-SAL volunteer business counselor, counsels Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our counseling ranges from basic BP Claim information to assisting clients with P&L statements, cash flow projections, marketing strategies, business plans and SBA loan packaging.

One business owner shared her frustration and concern over the lack of immediate financial help and the negative reporting that continues to scare tourists away from the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area.  She has seen many businesses "die" as a direct result of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill because of their inability to secure funds in a timely manner to stay whole.  Every business owner I have met with shares these concerns.

As Alabamians, we have a vested interest in the success of our Gulf Coast businesses.  Take the time to support our shore, visit Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, go the Outlet Mall in Foley, eat an area restaurant and encourage family and friends to come for a visit.

See you soon!
